How do you make eyeliner on the bottom of your eye thicker?

I like really dark, thick eyeliner so what I do is line the bottom of my eye with a pencil eyeliner then go over it with black eye shadow, making that smokey, smudgy look...on the top I do liquid cause it stays better and longer.
